Marsoui
The most common theory states that Marsoui comes
from the Micmac word "malseou" meaning flint or firestone.
However, town elders believe it is a corruption of the French word "marsouin" used
to denote the small white porpoises that regularly navigate the waters
of the region.
A rather curious fact: during prohibition in the
U.S., Marsoui was a popular destination for bootleggers pursued by
the
Royal Canadian
Mounted Police. Here you'll also find commercial maple operations
that use the latest technology. And just inside the town's borders,
a monument pays homage to the air tragedy that claimed the lives
of six Canadian soldiers in 1998. |
