The Parc national de la Gaspésie is devoted
to the conservation of wildlife over a territory of 802 km2. The
park has 25 summits with altitudes of more than 1,000 metres and
breathtaking panoramas.
This park is the destination of choice for those who love nature
hikes. The network has 130 kilometres of trails offering a vast range
of emotions.
The hiker can easily contemplate the entire park from atop Mont Ernest-Laforce,
discover the tundra from Mont Jacques-Cartier, take on the challenge
of Mont Albert or view the ocean from the pic du Brûlé lookout
atop Monts Chic-Chocs.
It is also possible to go on a prolonged nature hike of a few days
with lodging available in comfortable mountain huts. This will surely
satisfy wildlife-lovers!
Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs (Wildlife
Reserve)
At the heart of the Gaspé Peninsula, the Appalachian
Chic-Chocs form the backbone of this forest-covered peninsula. The
Réserve faunique des Chic-Chocs lies adjacent to the Parc
national de la Gaspésie to the east. This park even encloses
part of the reserve. The reserve is geographically located at the
perimeter of a protected area which makes it a preferred site for
wildlife.
The elaborate relief of the Appalachians offers amazed hikers a truly
breathtaking view of the landscape. To the west rise the distinctive
bare summits of Blanche-Lamontagne (940 m), Vallières-de-Saint-Réal
(940 m) and Hog’s Back (830 m) while in the east, Mount Brown
(920 m) towers over a less rugged landscape. Activities such as fishing,
hunting and hiking can be enjoyed amid the monumental decor of the
mountains.
